Like all routers, a TP-Link router has a control panel used for operating its web interface. You can set up the router by following the steps below –

  • Get the default WPA2 and SSID key from your network provider
  • Locate the Ethernet port on your wireless TP-Link router, plug an Ethernet cable into it and connect the other end to your modem
  • Turn on the router- press the Power On/Off switch
  • On your PC, enable Wi-Fi and connect to the router (connects automatically)
  • Open your browser and enter the following address – net
  • Type “admin” in both the fields as default username and password
  • Click on ‘Login’
  • In the Quick Setup section, click on Next
  • Type the SSID key in the field that says Wireless Network Name
  • Type the WPA2 password in the WPA-PSK field
  • Click on Next to proceed
  • Your router’s basic set up is complete, click on Finish to exit

Your router gets instantly disconnected on your PC. Now, click on the Internet access icon in the notifications area. Select your router and click on ‘Connect’ under it. Type the new SSID key and password.

How to Login on TP-Link Router

If you want any other device to connect to your TP-Link router, here’s how you log in –

  • Turn on the Wi-Fi of your device and open the browser – preferably Google Chrome
  • In the address bar, type the following login IP address – 192.168.0.1
  • Hit the Enter key

  • In the login page, type ‘ admin ’ as the username and password
  • Click on Login

You’ve connected another device to your router. You should know that the connected device has access to configure your router’s settings.

How to Change Username and Password on a TP-Link Router

The default term admin is not a strong username or password. You can change it and set a new username and password on your TP-Link router.

  • After logging in with the above method, navigate to the Wireless tab on the left-side panel
  • Click on the Wireless menu to expand it and select – Wireless Settings

  • In the Wireless Settings menu, locate the Wireless Network Name field
  • Type your new username and click on Save
  • In the WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK2 field, type your new password (put characters to make it longer and stronger)
  • Now, click on Save to apply the changes

To confirm the new username and password, you need to reboot your TP-Link router.

  • Go to the link - net
  • Log in and open the System Tools menu from left-side pane
  • Now, click on the Reboot option in the submenu
  • Click on the Reboot button

Your TP-Link router reboots and comes back online in a few moments. Now, connect all your devices and save the new username and password for your TP-Link wireless router.

Tips for TP-Link Router Security Setup

If an unknown device gets access to your router, you need a way to disconnect your router from that device. You can configure the settings on your TP-Link router and get that additional security.

  • Go to the link - net
  • Log in and open the System Tools menu from left-side pane
  • Now, click on the Password option in the submenu
  • Enter the old and new username & password in the respective fields
  • Click on ‘Save’

Now, the router gets disconnected from all devices that used the old username and password, including yours. Open the Chrome browser on your device, go to the link and sign in your TP-Link router with the new username and password.

If you don’t want to share your internet access with any other device, you can turn off the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) on your TP-Link router.

  • Open Chrome, enter the link - net and hit the Enter key
  • Log in and open the WPS menu from left-side pane
  • Now, go to the WPS Status field
  • It says ‘ Enabled
  • Click on ‘ Disable WPS ’ button which is right next to it

Now, only your current device is connected to the TP-Link router. The internet access has been limited to one device, with security beefed up.
