Although updating the Windows 10 looks a pretty simple task, most of the users find it very difficult when the Windows update hangs up on the “Checking for Updates” screen.
Windows update stuck on “Checking for Updates” is a common update problem that occurs on Windows 10/8/7.
You may just end up seeing a Windows 10 update screen stuck on checking for updates forever. Many users fed up with this problem.

Steps to Fix Windows 10 Updates Stuck at Checking for Updates Issue
Step #1: Stop Windows Update Service
Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on Command Prompt -> Select “Run as Administrator”.
Type:
net stop wuauserv
to stop windows update service.
Wait for a few seconds. The Windows update service will be stopped once the command is successfully executed.
Don’t close the Command Prompt window, you will need it in the second step.
Step #2: Delete the Files
Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistributionand delete all files in “ DataStore ” and “ Download ” folder.
Step 3: Start Windows Update Service
In the Command Prompt Window, type:
net start wuauserv
to restart the windows update service.
After finishing all the three steps, restart your PC and try updating your Windows 10 again.
You’ll notice that the Windows 10 Update service is not getting stuck and the update process will end smoothly. Once the updates are downloaded, you’ll be asked to Install the updates.
Click on install and the issue of Windows 10 update stuck at checking for updates is resolved.
