How Cool Will Samsung’s 55 Inch OLED TV be?

We’ve come a long way from the old Black and White TV with its grainy images and spotty reception. TV viewing gets better each year with companies vying to corner a niche in a highly competitive market. Not a stranger to the electronics market is Samsung and what it has on offer is an organic light-emitting diode TV, in a whopping 55 inch size. Samsung has already used OLED in its cell phones and is the world’s biggest OLED manufacturer, so a TV from its stables should be interesting to experience.

The OLED TV makes for sharper images and better presentation, because of its large display sizes and sharper resolution. Since the OLED display does not have backlight, the black levels are the deepest and the colors are even sharper than LCD. OLED also means better viewing angles, so you don’t have to sit right in front of the TV, lower power consumption and faster response time. Costs could be pushed lower once production kicks into high gear.

Samsung’s ES9500 or the Super OLED is the first of its kind and the company hopes to deliver superior, never-before-seen pictures in a sleek design. It comes loaded with Samsung’s already-existing cool features like gesture control, Smart Evolution upgradability and Smart Interaction Voice- a built-in camera and microphone allow you to control the TV through speech and gestures. The remote control also has a microphone and you can dictate commands to it. Not just TV commands you can even use Smart Evolution to connect to the internet!

All in all, you get a lot more from your TV. The TV has a dual-core processor and 3D too. Another cool feature is the Smart Dual View technology which allows two users to watch two separate programs on the screen at the same time. All they need to do is put on their 3D glasses(the picture is 2D) and headphones. Fights over the TV remote ends here!

The downside is the present cost which is close to a massive $9000. The shelf life is also a bit worrisome, around 5 years and OLED is a sensitive technology. But the fact is that, Samsung has delivered time and time again with some fabulous products. There is no reason to believe it will not do so this time around too. The 55 inch OLED TV promises to revolutionize the TV experience. The question is- are you ready?
