Facebook Replaces User’s email Addresses @facebook.com

Not many of us use service. But  Facebook is trying to change that by making its users’ Facebook email addresses the primary ones displayed on their profile pages. Yes, that means people looking at users’ accounts won’t see their Gmail, Hotmail orYahoo accounts anymore and will only see the seldom-used Facebook account. Facebook since Friday have been routed back into the Facebook Messages inbox, rather than into your email inbox. Annoying? Perhaps.

The fact that Facebook did this without asking its users what they want doesn’t surprise. Facebook does this kind of stuff all the time. And even when it gives users fair warnings about changes, they still flip their lids, wig out, and have a bloody conniption all over the Web. In fact, Facebook did give users warning (kind of) - all the way back in April. At at least one member of the DT staff received an email on Friday noting the change, though my email setting was changed without notice.

Facebook launched its own email service back in 2010, which was promptly forgotten by everyone. This morning, it was noticed that they removed everyone’s email addresses from their profiles, replacing them with a @facebook.com email address instead (not Facebook’s internal email address which they use for notifications and password resets, just the one listed on your profile). The question remains: Why did Facebook make the change?

According to Facebook, however, the change is all about choice. Fortunately, switching back to your old email is easy by following these instructions

First, go to the “Update Info” button on you profile. From there, scroll down to contact information and click “edit.” All you have to do at this point is change the Facebook email address to “Hidden from Timeline” and then change the primary email address to “Show on Timeline” and Click the Save button at the bottom of the Edit popup (Don’t forget this step).

The regular email is displayed on your profile again.
