Is it Better to play Scooby Doo Games on Mobile or on Computer?

Scooby Scooby Doo – where are you? Oh yes. On my mobile. And indeed on my computer. So what’s better to see you with – that little three inch mobile screen or a nice big 15 inch computer screen?

Of course these days, there’s no real difference between using a mobile to play games and a computer to play games. Just like back in the day when you used a handheld gaming station like a GameBoy or a Game Gear to play on the move, and a computer or a home based games console at home.

The modern mobile phone has the processing power and battery life to handle slick animations, funky tunes and proper levels – meaning you can play Scooby Doo games that really feel like a proper adventure game, even though you’re on a train. Plus of course you can connect to the internet with all but the most basic of handsets – allowing you to connect directly to the Cartoon Network (now home of Scooby and his chums) site and play their official games for free.

Most Scooby games are variations on the classic platform game, which of course was at the height of its initial popularity back in the 80s and 90s alongside the consoles and handheld gaming stations mentioned earlier. A platform game takes up less processing power, as it’s generally played on a left to right axis with no depth – so you can get more levels, quicker playability and more involving graphics without sacrificing slickens or scrolling capabilities. Plus of course a platform game has a nice retro appeal, which makes it more satisfying when it’s used to enshrine a character like Scooby Doo – whose original incarnation is as old school as 1969.

Where and how you choose to play Scooby Doo games depends on where and how you normally connect to the internet; what you use your mobile or handheld device for; and whether you like to play games top pass idle moments or to get involved.

Playing a game on a train, or while waiting for a bus, for example, requires something easy to get into, with not a lot of super-involved graphics and game plot. That’s perfect for Scooby Doo games and it’s also perfect for the mobile phone, which of course has whole function sections designed specifically to let you game while you are on the move.

With Scooby games , and similar character based games the trend seems to be towards making simple games that remind the player of old platform games – so there’s enough plot there to keep you interested, but without the full-on resolution and extremely deep plotting of modern platform games, designed instead to be played at home on a computer or even through a large screen TV.

To a degree, it’s all about detail. The thing is, though, games with less detail tend to focus more on playability. This is why people are still addicted to Tetris , for example, while other titles come and go. Which one will you choose?
